The term double wide is exactly that. It's two scissor assemblies welded into one frame. The purpose of this is to offer wider tops that are not available with a single scissors.A standard rule is that the table top cannot be 2 feet wider than the base frame. An example of this is that a 48" wide base table can have up to a maximum top width of 72". However, if this was a double wide 48" wide base, the top could be 12 feet wide.The other benefits of double wide base tables are increased capacity and increased edge loading.
